‘A Great Day In Harlem’

‘A Great Day In Harlem’ is a famous black and white photo by Art Kane that depicts some of the jazz elite of that era standing in front of a Harlem brownstone getting their picture taken. The famous photo is a ‘must have’ for all jazz fans, and can be purchased as a poster. It’s been referenced by many as “the epitome of jazz life.” We even feature it in ii-V-I: A JassOdyssey.
The photo will be celebrating its anniversary this summer, so we thought that over the next few months we’d highlight each member of the photo. So stay tuned. But in the meantime can you think of modern-day musicians who you would nominate if the portrait were duplicated today? Let us know.
