Makin’ Bricks

This Labor Day weekend I’ll be ‘makin’ bricks’–not the masonry type, but the musical type. That term was quoted by Louis Armstrong when it came to describing his music as part of a musical duo. For those of you who have followed Miles and Roland during their musical journey in the JassOdyssey series, you’ll be glad to know that the next book in the series is underway. So far, chapters using Kansas City, Council Bluff, Iowa, and Davenport, Iowa as a backdrop have been completed. During my research, I found out that Bix Beiderbecke was born in Davenport. And as I’m sure, you’ll read about Miles’s adventure in the city as he goes back in time to meet the cornet player.
Last month, there was a tribute to Beiderbecke in Davenport. Fans from all over the country went to the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Festival to honor him. You can see their homage on YouTube.  Jazz aficionados know that Bix’s life was cut short. Though he played jazz, he had the blues. That inspired me to compose a new song that will appear in the audiobook. It’s called Bix’s Blues. Hope you enjoy it. Share this blog and the song with your friends. And as we always say–
Take the Test, Take the Journey!!
